NCERT set to introduce new curriculum and teaching guidelines

NEW DELHI, MAY 20: NCERT’s National Curriculum Framework (NCF) is responsible for providing framework for the school syllabi, teaching methods/guidelines and writing of the textbooks. The NCF is driven by the vision- Working with and for all children in the early years in a respectful way to provide them with quality experiences and equality of opportunities to achieve their full potential. The last framework proposed by NCF was in the year 2005. NCERT now will be reviewing the NCF 2005 after the announcement of election results. This time, the reviewing will be done after a long gap of 15 years.
Previously, NCERT reviewed the NCF framework in the years 2005, 2000, 1988 and 1975. An expert committee will be set up for the sole purpose of reviewing the NCF 2005.
Here’s the main objective of NCF of previous years’-
NCF 2005: Focus on ‘learning without burden’ reduction in the syllabus for all classes including age-appropriate concepts.
NCF 2000: This stated, teaching if science and tech science in upper primary and secondary, part of environmental science in primary recommended.
NCF 1988: This stated that the science curriculum must be learner-centered, develop well-defined abilities in cognitive, affective and psychomotor domains.
NCF 1975: This framework stated General Science as a compulsory subject, activity-based integrated science recommended up to class 10.
As per media reports, NCERT has received over 1 lakh suggestions for the review of NCF 2005 by students, teachers, parents, intellectuals and members of civil society. Apart from this, NCERT is also planning a huge training program for 42 lakh government elementary school teachers by December 2019.
