Operation Sindoor in School Textbooks: NCERT rolls out new modules on patriotism, national security

Just three months after the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has introduced modules that take students through the timeline of Operation Sindoor. The two modules – “Operation Sindoor: A Saga of Valour” and “A mission of courage, military success and technical breakthrough” have been rolled out for middle and secondary school students.

Last month, the council announced its plans to develop classroom modules on Operation Sindoor for students from Classes 3 to 8 and Class 9 to 12. The modules have been launched to instill lessons of patriotism, valour, defence strategy, diplomatic response, and national security.

The NCERT’s “Operation Sindoor - A Saga of Valour” has been developed for preparatory and middle stages and “Operation Sindoor - A Mission of Honour and Bravery” for secondary classes.

Pahalgam terror attack happened on April 22, killing 26 people — including 25 tourists and a local. The massacre prompted India to launch Operation Sindoor in May 2025, a swift and calibrated military response targeting Pakistan’s air defence and terror camps.

The middle-stage module titled - Operation Sindoor – A Saga of Valour introduces students to the background of the May 2025 Pahalgam terror attack. It explains the measured military response in a storytelling format.

The secondary module focuses on the timeline of events, explaining how Pakistan’s escalation led to counter-strikes. It also talks about the military equipment, weapons, drones, artillery used. It introduces students to strategic thinking and defence technology and encourages analysis and debate on nation security.
