NEET 2021 Result: Supreme Court to hear NTA's plea against re-exam today

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court will today hear the plea of the National Testing Agency (NTA) regarding the NEET UG 2021 result. The NTA on Monday sought an urgent hearing in the apex court on its petition against the Bombay high court order asking it not to declare the NEET results 2021 and conduct re-examination for two aspirants.

On October 20, the Bombay High Court had directed the NTA to hold re-exam for these two candidates whose question papers and OMR sheets got mixed at a centre in Maharashtra. The NEET-UG test booklet and OMR sheet of two medical aspirants -- Vaishanavi Bhopali and Abhishek Shivaji – got mixed up at the examination centre before the start of the test and ordered that they be given a fresh opportunity to appear.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the NTA had requested the hearing today. The bench said that it will consider

‘NEET result 2021 ready’

The NTA had said that due to the high court’s order it has not been able to declare NEET UG 2021 results even though the same is ready for declaration. The NEET 2021 was held for more than 16 lakh candidates on September 12.

The Bombay high court has also directed that the NTA give 2 days clear notice to the petitioners about the date of NEET re-exam and the test centre allotted to them.

The NTA in its appeal said that the delay in the NEET 2021 declaration of result will affect and further delay the UG medical course admission process.

Meanwhile, the Centre on Tuesday justified before the top court its decision to set the limit of Rs 8 lakh annual income fixed for determining the EWS category for reservation in NEET admissions for medical courses. It also assured that the NEET PG counselling will not be conducted till the SC decides on 27% reservation for OBC and 10% for EWS category in AIQ seats.
