The National Testing Agency (NTA) has decided to scrap the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG) 2026 examination held on May 3 following inputs received from investigative agencies over paper leak. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has now taken custody of individuals accused in the alleged NEET UG 2026 paper leak case.

As per NTA’s official notification, the decision to cancel the medical entrance examination was approved by the Government of India to ensure fairness, integrity and public confidence in the examination process.

The agency stated that a fresh NEET UG 2026 examination will be conducted, and revised exam dates will be announced separately on the official NEET portal. Details regarding the release of new admit cards will also be shared later.

NTA clarified that candidates will not be required to submit fresh applications for the re-examination. Existing registration details, candidature information and previously selected exam cities will continue to remain valid for the upcoming test cycle.

The testing agency further confirmed that no extra fee will be collected from candidates for the re-NEET examination. Additionally, the examination fees paid earlier will be refunded, while the re-exam process will be managed internally by NTA.

NEET UG 2026: Paper leak probe

Allegations surrounding possible irregularities in NEET UG 2026 surfaced soon after the medical entrance examination concluded, prompting investigations by multiple agencies. The Rajasthan Special Operations Group (RSOG) initiated a probe into the alleged malpractice, while reports also indicated detentions linked to a suspected organised cheating network.

According to media reports, investigators are examining the circulation of hundreds of questions allegedly shared before the examination. Officials reportedly found that most biology and chemistry questions had similarities with those appearing in the actual NEET UG 2026 paper.

Key points emerging from the investigation include:

  • Over 100 biology and chemistry questions allegedly matched the actual paper.
  • Similar videos and test-series material were reportedly traced to a coaching institute in Maharashtra’s Latur district.
  • Authorities are investigating whether the circulated content was a “guess paper” or part of a larger organised network.

Meanwhile, the NTA stated that the examination was conducted under strict security arrangements and that suspicious inputs received after the exam were forwarded to central agencies for verification. The agency also said it is fully cooperating with investigators by sharing technical and examination-related data.
