Re-NEET Exam Date 2026: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced that the re-conduct of NEET UG 2026 will be held on June 21 following the cancellation of the May 3 examination over alleged paper leak irregularities. Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan also announced in a press conference that future NEET examinations will gradually shift towards a Computer-Based Test (CBT) model. More than 22 lakh aspirants have been affected by the cancellation, which has created uncertainty around admissions to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and other medical courses.
The NEET UG 2026 admit cards are expected to be released around 8 to 10 days before the examination. Earlier, the Union government handed over the investigation into the alleged paper leak to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) after the NTA cancelled the exam citing compromise of the question paper.
A report by Hindustan Times said, the CBI informed a Delhi court that the alleged leak could be traced back to a source inside the NTA itself. According to HT, accused Shubham Khairnar allegedly obtained the leaked paper from a Pune-based contact linked to an “NTA source”. The agency said it is now identifying officials and other public servants possibly involved in the leak network.
CBI has arrested several accused from Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Haryana and recovered leaked papers, chats and digital evidence during raids. Investigators told the court that a PDF containing nearly 500-600 questions had allegedly circulated on Telegram from April 29, four days before the exam, with around 180 questions reportedly matching the final NEET UG 2026 paper.
The agency has announced new exam dates for NEET UG 2026 on its official website. Candidates will not need to re-register or pay any additional fee for the re-exam. Around 22 lakh students will be eligible to appear in the re-conducted exam.
NTA has not yet released the admit card for the re-NEET. However, officials have confirmed that NEET admit cards will be issued a few days before the new exam date once the revised schedule is finalised.
According to media reports, the controversy began after claims that a “guess paper” shared before the exam contained many questions similar to the actual NEET UG question paper. Investigators suspect that the question paper was leaked before the exam and shared through coaching centres and middlemen.
More than 400 questions were reportedly shared before the NEET exam. Over 100 questions from Biology and Chemistry are said to have matched the actual exam paper. Similar videos and test series material were also traced to a coaching institute in the Latur district of Maharashtra.
Allegations of irregularities in NEET UG 2026 came up soon after the medical entrance exam ended, leading to investigations by several agencies. The Rajasthan Special Operations Group (RSOG) started a probe into the alleged malpractice, and reports also said that some people were detained in connection with a suspected cheating network.
