NEET UG 2026: From entry rules to logistical arrangements, NTA shares detailed re-exam plan

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released a new notification regarding the fully prepared to conduct the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG) 2026 re-examination on Sunday, June 21, 2026, with more than 22.79 lakh candidates expected to appear for the country's biggest undergraduate medical entrance test.

The examination will be held in pen-and-paper mode from 2 pm to 5.15 pm across 551 cities in India and 14 cities abroad. Candidates eligible for compensatory time under the PwD/PwBD category will be allowed to continue writing until 6.20 pm.

With concerns around exam security and the spread of misleading information online, authorities have introduced additional safeguards and increased monitoring to ensure the examination is conducted smoothly and fairly.

Large-scale coordination for NEET UG

According to NTA, the re-exam involves one of the largest coordinated examination exercises in the country. To manage the process, 674 city coordinators have been appointed, while 6,669 observers will independently monitor examination centres.

In addition, centre superintendents, invigilators, district officials, police personnel and escort teams will be deployed across the country. Altogether, more than two lakh personnel have been engaged for the conduct of the examination.

These arrangements have been made in close coordination with state governments, district administrations and law enforcement agencies.

Enhanced NEET UG security arrangements

To strengthen security and prevent malpractice, NTA has introduced several layers of monitoring and verification.

Question papers and other confidential materials will be transported under strict security protocols using GPS-enabled vehicles accompanied by police escorts. Examination centres will remain under CCTV surveillance, with live feeds being monitored centrally.

Candidates will undergo frisking before entering examination centres, and Aadhaar-based biometric authentication will be used to help prevent impersonation.

The agency also said social media platforms are being closely monitored to identify false claims, rumours and any attempts to disrupt the examination process. Complaints have already been lodged with cyber-crime agencies, including the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), against individuals allegedly involved in spreading misleading information.

Relief for candidates facing biometric issues

NTA clarified that candidates will not be turned away solely because of biometric verification problems caused by technical issues, poor fingerprint quality, connectivity disruptions or physical limitations.

Such candidates will be allowed to appear for the examination after submitting a written undertaking and completing manual verification using valid identity documents.

The agency said the provision is intended to ensure that genuine candidates do not face difficulties because of technical glitches beyond their control.

Facilities available at examination centres

Given the large number of candidates and the prevailing summer conditions in several parts of the country, NTA has directed centres to ensure basic facilities are available throughout the examination period.

Centres have been instructed to maintain power backup arrangements, adequate lighting, functioning fans, drinking water facilities, sanitation services and medical support.

Candidates may carry a transparent water bottle into the examination hall. Diabetic candidates will also be allowed to bring sugar tablets and fruits such as bananas, apples or oranges, along with a transparent water bottle, as permitted under NTA guidelines.

Wall clocks will be installed in examination rooms to help candidates keep track of time during the test.

Reporting time and entry guidelines

Candidates have been asked to report to their examination centres between 11 am and 1.30 pm. NTA has once again emphasised that the entry gates will close at 1.30 pm and no candidate will be allowed to enter after that time.

Students wearing customary or religious attire, as well as those opting for full-sleeved clothing, have been advised to arrive early because additional security checks may take longer.

Candidates must carry a printed admit card, a valid photo identity proof and two passport-size photographs for attendance-related formalities.

The agency has also advised students to verify the exact address mentioned on their admit cards instead of relying entirely on navigation apps, as incorrect location pins may sometimes appear.

NTA urges students to ignore rumours

Ahead of the examination, NTA has urged candidates to rely only on information released through official channels and avoid paying attention to rumours about paper leaks or examination irregularities.

Students have been encouraged to report suspicious messages, social media posts or online channels making fraudulent claims related to NEET UG 2026.

The agency also reminded candidates that mental health support is available through Tele-MANAS, the national 24x7 helpline, which can be accessed by dialling the toll-free number 14416.

Focus on fair and smooth conduct

As the examination date draws closer, NTA said all necessary arrangements have been finalised to ensure a secure, transparent and hassle-free process.

The agency thanked state governments, district administrations, police authorities and examination staff for their support and cooperation, reiterating that every effort is being made to conduct the NEET UG 2026 re-examination smoothly across India and overseas centres on June 21.
