New PG medical college in Maharashtra: Report
Maharashtra University of Health Sciences to start a new PG medical college by 2022-23.

NEW DELHI: Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) is set to establish a postgraduate medical college, which will be called Maharashtra Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research Institute. The union ministry of health and family welfare and National Medical Commission have sanctioned this initiative, reported the Times of India.

“The process to recruit 57 faculty members, including the dean, has already begun”, Madhuri Kanitkar, retired Lt Gen who is the vice-chancellor of MUHS reportedly said.
“We are excited to finish the recruitment process by the end of December. Then, the commission would make an inspection before giving its final nod. The institute is likely to start functioning from 2022-23,” Kanitkar reportedly said.
The institute will first include PG medical education in seven disciplines — general medicine, paediatrics, general surgery, orthopaedics, anaesthesia, obstetrics and gynaecology, maternity and child welfare and emergency medicine. At least 50 seats can be expected for all disciplines.

Admission will be via the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate, or NEET PG.
This year's round, NEET PG counselling 2021, is currently on hold as the Centre has told the Supreme Court to review reservation criteria for OBC and EWS category, and many are protesting regarding this issue. The Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association (FORDA) has recently warned that ignoring their demands will result in intensified protests with thousands of doctors marching to the health ministry. There have been repeated delay in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET)-PG counselling 2021 and admission process for postgraduate medical courses.
