NIFT Convocation 2025: 343 students get UG, PG, PhD degrees; new academic blocks inaugurated

The newly inaugurated infrastructure will be equipped with curated classrooms, state-of-the-art laboratories, a multi-purpose venue, and a sophisticated auditorium with a capacity of 500 seats.
The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) conducted its Convocation 2025 where 312 students from Mumbai and 29 from Daman campus were conferred with UG and PG degrees. During the ceremony, Pabitra Margherita, minister of state for textiles and external affairs also inaugurated new academic buildings 1, 2, 3 and a multi-purpose hall at the Khargar campus.
Minister Margherita also conferred the PhD degree upon Susmita Das, associate professor, NIFT Mumbai, and Amisha Mehta, associate professor, NIFT Gandhinagar, for their scholarly excellence.
The newly constructed infrastructure will be equipped with curated classrooms, state-of-the-art laboratories, a multi-purpose venue, and a sophisticated auditorium with a capacity of 500 seats.
The academic building at NIFT Mumbai will provide enhanced academic facilities and an inspiring environment for students and faculty, encouraging creativity and scholastic achievement, according to an official press release.

Highlighting the facilities at the new infrastructure, the minister said: "It is this very culture of innovation and creativity that NIFT Mumbai and NIFT Daman cultivate every day. With state-of-the-art infrastructure, skilled faculty, and a vibrant student community, both campuses stand tall as some of the most respected design institutions in the country."
During the convocation event, graduates were recognised for their accomplishments and creativity. The fashion institute also honoured outstanding students with several awards such as extraordinary service, student of the year, best academic, best academic performance, meritorious student, most innovative and creative design collection, and best graduation project award.
Several dignitaries also took part in the event including Khushal Jangid, director, NIFT Mumbai; Brijesh Deore, director, NIFT Daman; Tanu Kashyap, director general, NIFT, IAS; Vidhushekhar P, CAC-NIFT Daman and Manjula Tiwari, CEO, Cover Story Clothing Ltd. and NIFT alumna.
"The world of fashion today is going through a transformation— from commercial success to conscious creation. The focus is shifting toward sustainability, ethical fashion, and slow design. There is a renewed pride in rediscovering India’s textile heritage — from natural dyeing and hand weaving to recycling and zero-waste tailoring. The fusion of traditional skills with global sensibilities is making Indian design one of the most exciting in the world today,” the minister added.
