NEW DELHI: In the NIRF Ranking 2022 announced today by the Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan, the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have once again shined bright by retaining the top spots or bettering their ranks from the previous year. IIT Delhi became the fourth best educational institution in the country and second best engineering institute. The institute also ranked 4th in the NIRF Ranking 2022 for MBA.

Speaking on the NIRF India Rankings 2022 announced today, Professor Rangan Banerjee, Director, IIT Delhi, said, “We are enhancing programmes and options for our students and strengthening our research and societal impact. We are happy to see that this is reflecting on our NIRF rankings.”

IIT Madras retained its top rank in ‘Overall’ category in NIRF Ranking for the fourth consecutive year and in NIRF Engineering Ranking 2022 for the seventh consecutive year. In the ‘Research’ category, IIT Madras secured second position, same as last year. The Institute improved its position in ‘Management’ category, securing 10th rank this year, bettering last year’s position of 13.

Congratulating all the stakeholders, from students to faculty and non-teaching staff for their hard work that has resulted in such extraordinary performance, Professor V Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras, said, “I dedicate this achievement to all the students, staff and faculty of my Institute. Special thanks to all the frontline workers who kept the Institute ticking during the Covid times. Thanks to the Ministry of Education, Government of India for their continued support and encouragement. The NIRF process gives detailed feedback regarding our strengths and weaknesses. While we will continue to leverage on our strengths we will address the weaknesses to march forward.”

NIRF Ranking 2022 engineering, overall

IIT Bombay has secured third position in ‘Overall’ and ‘Engineering’ category, and 11th in the Management category. It stood 4th in the new ‘Research’ category of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). The Institute obtained a score of 82.35, 83.96, 66.25 and 80.21 in the Overall, Engineering, Management and Research category respectively of the NIRF 2022.

Speaking about IIT Bombay’s performance in NIRF Rankings, the Director of the Institute, Professor Subhasis Chaudhuri said “IIT Bombay always strives to provide the best all-round career training for all our students and to focus on research and entrepreneurial activities that have greater impacts to our society. Our efforts shall continue and a recognition like this by NIRF will further consolidate our resolve to work harder on these aspects."

IIT Guwahati has retained its position in NIRF Engineering Ranking 2022 achieving 7th rank this year. The Institute also retained its position in ‘Overall’ category, recording 8th rank in NIRF 2022. Congratulating the Institute on its performance, Professor T G Sitharam, Director, IIT Guwahati, said, “The performance of the institute directly reflects the contribution of the students and the faculty members and we will continue to support their efforts.”

“The institute is making efforts for promoting interdisciplinary research by initiating several academic schools and centers as part of NEP2020 implementation. This will not only enhance interaction among top academicians and enhance the standards of higher education but also bring to the forefront the best academic practices and also enhance our abilities to solve societal problems,” he said while highlighting future plans.

IIT Mandi has ranked 20 in the ‘engineering’ category, 39 in the ‘research’ category, and 43 in the ‘overall’ category in NIRF Ranking 2022.

Speaking about the rankings, Professor Laxmidhar Behera, Director, IIT Mandi, said, "It gives me great delight to note that IIT Mandi has made significant improvements in the NIRF 2022. All this has been made possible by the untiring efforts of our excellent faculty and students and their contribution to Research, Teaching, and other parameters. We will strive to keep our commitment to make IIT Mandi relevant with our research for the local region in Himachal Pradesh, while also being of relevance to the country."
