NIRF Ranking 2022 Live: Dharmendra Pradhan announces NIRF rankings; IIT Madras tops once again

Odisha state's four institutes have been featured in the NIRF ranking 2022 top 100 educational centres. Three universities from Odisha are also featured among the top 100 public and private universities in India. However, no colleges in Odisha were on the top list.

NIRF ranking 2022 is based on five parameters such as teaching, learning and resources (TLR),  research and professional practices (RPC), graduation outcomes (GO), outreach and inclusivity (OI), and perception. 

National Law School of India University (NLSIU) Bengaluru retained the position of top law school in India according to the NIRF Ranking 2022. National Law University (NLU) Delhi and Symbiosis law School Pune have secured the second and third ranks. Read more..

"Happy to be ranked 11 in the NIRF rankings 2022 by Ministry of Education. We are at the first position in private institutions and Deemed-to-be Universities and in the second position in the state of Maharashtra in Pharmacy colleges.  We are one of the youngest Deemed-to-be Universities and Pharmacy Schools to reach this milestone," said Bala Prabhakar, dean, Shobhaben Pratapbhai Patel School of Pharmacy Technology Management, (SPPSPTM) NMIMS.

Delhi University has slipped to the 13th position in the NIRF ranking 2022 from the previous year's 12th rank. In the overall rankings, DU's position declined to 23. In NIRF ranking 2021, the University of Delhi was in the 19th position under the overall category.  

Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have performed well at the NIRF Ranking 2022 by retaining the top spots and improving their ranks from the previous year. IIT Madras has once again be declared as the best educational institution in India. Many IITs have reacted to the NIRF 2022. Read more

Presidency College and Loyola College located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu have secured the third and fourth rank in the NIRF ranking 2022 under the college category: The first and second ranks in the NIRF college ranking 2022 went to Miranda House and Hindu College in Delhi. 

Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) Chandigarh earned second rank in the NIRF 2022 ranking in the medical college category by securing a score of 79. AIIMS Delhi bagged the first position.

QS World University Rankings is an annual publication of university rankings by Quacquarelli Symonds. The QS World University Rankings 2022 subject-wise were released on April 6. In the arts and humanities domain, JNU and Delhi University were featured in the top 200 list, with JNU in the 101-150 range and DU in the 151-200 slab in the history subject. 

In the engineering and technology domain, IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay secured the 65th and 67th ranks respectively. IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, and the IISc Bangalore have got 109, 109, 114, and 144 ranks respectively. IIT Roorkee was featured in the top 251-300 slab, VIT in 301-350, IIT Guwahati and DU in 351-400. 

Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT) Jaipur, Rajasthan has scored 51.69 and bagged 46th rank on the NIRF ranking engineering category.

Defence Institute of Advanced Technology, Pune, Maharashtra bagged 71st rank in the NIRF 2022 engineering category by scoring 44.62.

BMS Institute of Technology and Management Bangalore, Karnataka has been ranked at 199 in the NIRF ranking engineering category with a score of 33.76. 

National Institute of Technology (NIT) Kurukshetra, Haryana, has been placed at the 50th position in the NIRF ranking engineering category. It secured 40.24 scores. 

CN Ashwathnarayan, Karnataka higher education minister congratulated the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore for securing second place in the NIRF management ranking. IIM Bangalore secured the second rank in the NIRF ranking 2022 management category. "Quality education is our motto. Our Hon'ble CM @BSBommai led Govt. has taken unique initiatives to make Karnataka the top destination for education," he said in a tweet.

The National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli (NITT) got 8th position in the NIRF engineering ranking 2022. The institute thanked the administration, faculty, staff, alumni, and students for the achievement in a tweet. NITT also secured 5th rank in architecture and 21st rank in the overall category.

Christian Medical College Vellore, Tamil Nadu has secured the second rank in the NIRF 2022 rankings for the medical college category with 72.84 scores, while the Christian Medical College, Ludhiana, Punjab secured 36th rank with a score of 51.89. 

Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh has secured the 6th rank in the NIRF university ranking with a score of 63.20. 

Lovely Professional University, Phagwara in Punjab has secured the 47th rank in the NIRF college ranking with a score of 48.92. 

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, West Bengal has secured 6th rank in the NIRF ranking 2022 law with a score of 67.27. IIT Kharagpur secured 5th rank in the NIRF engineering ranking 2022 with 78.89 scores, and 6th rank in overall rankings. 

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has retained its 7th rank in the NIRF ranking engineering category. IIT Guwahati has also retained its overall rank -- 8 in NIRF 2022. TG Sitharam, the director of IIT Guwahati congratulated the institute, and said, “The performance of the institute directly reflects the contribution of the students and the faculty members and we will continue to support their efforts.” 

Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College, Delhi, a co-educational constituent college of Delhi University has bagged the 7th rank in the NIRF 2022 rankings by scoring 70.46. The college was established in the year 1959. 

Kirori Mal College Delhi, a constituent college of Delhi University, on the north campus of DU has secured 10th rank in the NIRF 2022 with a score of 68.53. The college was established in they year 1954. 

Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) Veloore, Tamil Nadu bagged the 12th rank in the NIRF ranking 2022 under the engineering category by scoring 65.53.

The National Institute of Technology, Raipur was ranked 65 with a score of 45.71 on the NIRF 2022 engineering. However, the first three ranks in the NIRF Ranking Engineering were secured by IIT Madras, IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay.

JNU was ranked second in the university category, while IISc Bangalore bagged the first position. 

Jamia Hamdard, National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research Hyderabad and Panjab University topped the India rankings 2022 pharmacy. Dibrugarh University secured the 47th rank. 

NIRF ranking is based on five parameters, which include RPC, which stands for research and professional practices (RPC). The other parameters are teaching, learning and resources (TLR),  graduation outcomes (GO), outreach and inclusivity (OI), and perception.

Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), Bhubaneswar has secured the 42nd position in NIRF Ranking 2022 -- India rankings 2022 engineering.

Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani has ranked 29 in NIRF engineering ranking 2022 released by the Ministry of Education today.

Galgotias University, Gautam Buddha Nagar has ranked 147 in NIRF engineering ranking 2022 released by the Ministry of Education today.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has been announced as the best engineering institution in India once again, according to the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2022 released by education minister Dharmendra Pradhan. IIT Roorkee once again ranked first under the Architecture category in NIRF ranking list 2022.

"We have done simplification of process. There is a exercise going on to build - One data, one platform, only one set of data required - with the help of AICTE," K Sanjay Murthya said.

Proposing one or two more categories every year, Anil Kumar Nassa, the Member Secretary of National Board of Accreditation (NBA) said.

Talking about the credibility of NIRF ranking 2022, Anil Kumar Nassa, the Member Secretary of National Board of Accreditation (NBA) says, "Over the years we have attained credibility and we have seen the response increasing year by year. Top Law Colleges in India

Is the score shown against each institution reflective of their performance?

This score is a relative score, not absolute. Therefore a statement that ‘The institution with fail marks is ranked in the top 100’, is incorrect. This is NOT an absolute score.

In each parameter, percentile score using the log-function has been derived, which gives - where very few institutions have got the accreditation, whereas ranking is open to all!

It is due to this reason that across the Countries, there is both accreditation and ranking.

Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru had last won the top spot in 2018 and was pushed to second position by IIT Madras in 2019 in the overall NIRF ranking. IIT Madras has been maintaining its top position since 2016 in the NIRF engineering ranking list. Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan will release the seventh edition of National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranking 2022 shortly at nirfindia.org.

In the previous year's NIRF ranking list, the top state university was Jadavpur University in Kolkata, West Bengal, followed by University of Calcutta, also West Bengal.

A record number of 7,254 institutions participated this year in the NIRF 2022 ranking. A total of 6,000 colleges and universities participated the previous year for the NIRF Rankings.

Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) Vellore was the top private engineering institution in the NIRF ranking for engineering last year. The VIT NIRF ranking was 12 and all institutions above it were public - IITs and NITs.

Miranda House bagged first position under college category in NIRF ranking last year.

The NIRF ranking is typically dominated by engineering institutions, even the overall NIRF ranking list. Last year, in the overall NIRF ranks, the top five overall were all engineering colleges. The only two universities in the top 10 were Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and Banaras Hindu University (BHU)

QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022 were released on April 6, 2022, for five categories - arts and humanities, engineering and technology, life sciences and medicine, natural sciences, and social sciences and management. Under the Engineering and Technology domain, two Indian Institutes of Technology - IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay have managed to secure positions in top 100 in computer science subject by ranking 65 and 67 respectively. Besides, other IITs made it to 109-300 ranks, Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) in 301-350, IIT Guwahati as well as DU in 351-400. 

Indian Institute of Technology, Madras secured first position in the NIRF overall category last year.

The NIRF ranking 2021 was delayed due to COVID-19 pandemic. Last year, research institution category was introduced and a year before that dental category was added.

Calcutta University was ranked as the top university in India in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2022. The institute has also done well in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) by the education ministry. It was ranked fourth in India in the NIRF university rankings, the only state-run institution in the top five, and ranked higher than Delhi University, University of Hyderabad, and Jamia Millia Islamia University.

“There has been a big upset with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) being dislodged by IIT Madras as the top institute in the country. Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru had last won the top spot in 2018 and was pushed to second position by IIT Madras in 2019 in the overall NIRF ranking. IIT Madras has been maintaining its top position since 2016 in the NIRF engineering ranking list. Once the education minister Dharmendra Pradhan declares the top colleges in India, the NIRF Ranking 2022 PDF will be made available on the official website, nirfindia.org.

Apart from helping students pick institutions, the NIRF Ranking exercise (full form of NIRF is National Institutional Ranking Framework) plays an important role in the education ministry's policy decisions. Achieving and maintaining a high rank in the NIRF is a condition for several policies. For example, institutions with high NIRF Ranks 

• Are eligible for education ministry's Graded Autonomy status which frees them of several regulations. For example, they can launch new programmes without having to seek permission.
• Can launch online degree programmes
• Are eligible to apply for Institutions of Eminence status.

Here is the list of top colleges in India under each category in NIRF rankings last year. 

While the last NIRF MBA Ranking was dominated by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) with IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore and IIM Calcutta in the top three positions, the top private management institutions on the NIRF Ranking was Xavier Labour Relations Institute (XLRI) Jamshedpur.

Can an institution which had a bad accreditation grade get a good rank and vice versa? It is possible. The institutions can slip or do better after they got their accreditation. Ranking is a reflection of the yearly performance.

Accreditation is a five-year comprehensive assessment of the institution as a whole. Ranking is a yearly affair. Accreditation gives absolute grade, ranking is relative to the other institutions similarly placed.

The NIRF was launched by the Ministry for Education on September 29, 2015. NIRF rankings are released annually to recognize top universities, colleges and other educational institutions across India. NIRF full form - National Institutional Ranking Framework.

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore was ranked first in the newly introduced Research Institutions category last year. IISc Bangalore was followed by IIT Madras and IIT Bombay.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur has been securing the top position in the architecture category for the three years till 2020 followed by IIT Roorkee. However, last year IIT Roorkee climbed one stop to bag first position in Architecture category. IIT Kharagpur was pushed to third position while National Institute of Technology, Calicut was ranked second.

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore has been ranking first in NIRF university rankings for the last four years, consecutively, followed by Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and Banaras Hindu University (BHU).

The National Law School of India University, Bengaluru has been bagging the first position in NIRF law ranking since 2018 succeeded by the National Law University (NLU) Delhi and Nalsar University of Law, Hyderabad at the second and third positions respectively.

There are total 23 Indian Institutes of technology (IITs) in India. There are 32 National institute of Technology (NITs) including IIEST Shibpur.

Last year, the Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Udupi replaced Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences (MAIDS), Delhi from the first position in NIRF ranking under the dental category introduced in 2020.

The Delhi University’s Miranda House has been at the top position in NIRF rankings under the college category for the last four years, consecutively. Lady Shri Ram College for Women, Delhi and Loyola College, Chennai bagged second and third position respectively.

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, has been securing the first position under the medical category for the last four years followed by the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) Chandigarh.

NIRF ranking 2022 list for universities, engineering, medical, management colleges and other categories will be released today at 11 AM. The Union education minister will be declaring the NIRF ranking 2022 in a virtual event.

The National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research Mohali was ranked first in NIRF ranking under the pharmacy category in the year 2018, it was replaced by Jamia Hamdard in 2019, 2020 and 2021. Last year, Panjab University, Chandigarh and Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani were ranked at second and third place.

The NIRF Rankings is released for different categories including Overall, universities, medical, engineering, architecture, law and others. The NIRF ranks to colleges and universities under each category is awarded on the basis of certain parameters.

The NIRF rankings 2021 will be released for eleven categories - Overall, Universities, Engineering, Colleges, Management, Pharmacy, Medical, Architecture, Dental, Research Institution and Law. Research Institution category was introduced last year.

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru was ranked as the top university in the country and also bagged the first position in the newly added research category last year. Miranda House emerged as the best college. And, National Law School of India University (NLSIU) Bengaluru was declared the top law school.

Last year, the education minister released the NIRF rankings list on September 9. IIT Madras ranked first under the overall and engineering category while AIIMS Delhi bagged the top position under the medical category. The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad ranked first in the management category in last year's NIRF Rankings. 

Highlighting the lacunae in the NIRF ranking 2021 process, Anil K Tripathi asserted that technical institutes like the Indian Institute of Sciences and the Indian Institute of Technology cannot be compared with a large multidisciplinary university like BHU. Both the institutions, according to Tripathi, have vast differences in terms of students, teachers, disciplines. However, the budget allocation for the institutions is nearly identical.

After the NIRF ranking list was released last year, Anil K Tripathi, director of the Institute of Science, Banaras Hindu University (BHU) had criticised the parameters used to rank institutions in the National Institutional Framework Ranking, or NIRF.

NIRF rankings 2022: Last year, the Indian universities and colleges were ranked based on 

• teaching, 
• learning and resources (TLR), 
• research and professional practice (RP), 
• graduation outcomes (GO), 
• outreach and inclusivity (OI), 
• peer perception.

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) was launched on September 29, 2015, to rank Indian universities and colleges based on objective criteria to promote competitive excellence.

In addition, the following two additional sub-parameters were included in the methodology developed afresh for ranking institutions under Research Institutions:

• Research Papers published in journals covered in the First Quartile of Journal Citation Report (JCRQ1)
• H Index.

The Indian universities and colleges will be ranked based on teaching, learning and resources (TLR), research and professional practice (RP), graduation outcomes (GO), outreach and inclusivity (OI), peer perception. Apart from these six parameters, there are about 16 to 18 sub-parameters used for ranking the institutions in different categories.

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings 2022 will be released today, July 15 at 11AM. Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan will be declaring the NIRF ranking, the seventh annual NIRF ranking list, of top colleges and universities at a virtual event.
