NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has once again claimed the top position in National Institute of Ranking Framework (NIRF Ranking 2023) in the engineering college category in India. This is the seventh time IIT Madras has been at the top, holding that position since the NIRF Rankings’ inception in 2016. IIT Delhi again has claimed the second position in this year's NIRF ranking.
This is the 8th edition of NIRF ranking with 12 categories including colleges, research, medical, law and other. “Agriculture and allied sectors” has been introduced as a new category in NIRF.
NIRF ranking is created based on the parameters including teaching, learning and resources; research, inclusivity and peer perception.
The education ministry is striving to have one data submission path for all rankings, surveys and accreditation purposes. It had constituted the K Radhakrishnan committee for streamlining the accreditation process.
The NIRF ranking is published annually. The number of participating colleges in 2016 were 3,500 which has increased to 8,688 in 2023.
