NIT Durgapur to resume offline classes, exams in phased manner from March 21: Report

NEW DELHI: National Institute of Technology (NIT) Durgapur has decided to resume offline classes and conduct offline exams in a phased manner from March 21 after the completion of mid-semester exams to be conducted in online mode, the Telegraph India reported.

NIT Durgapur’s senate reportedly took the decision to start offline classes last week. According to the resolution taken at the senate meeting, the institute will make special arrangements to take the offline exams of the students with Covid protocols in place.

According to the NIT Durgapur Senate resolution, classes in “offline mode with flexibility (some classes in online mode)” will be started from March 21 after mid-term examination in BTech, dual degree, integrated M.Sc (second year and third year), postgraduate first year and second year, integrated MSC (fourth year and fifth year), the report said.

End semester exams of these courses will be conducted offline from April 18 to 23, the report added.

Classes for BTech fourth-year students and MBA second year students will be held online, it said. “Since the students of fourth year are attending industrial internship, their classes and exams will be held online,” the Telegraph India quoted Nirmal Hui, the Dean of students affairs at the NIT.

On the other hand, classes and end semester exams of the students of the dual degree programme (fourth-year and fifth-year) will be held in hybrid mode, an NIT official said, as per report.

The institute has shared specific slots of the schedule for return involving the respective batch with the students. They have been asked to give an undertaking, stating that they have no objection to sharing rooms in hostels, the report further said.
