NIT Srinagar row: JKSA calls for peace, urges authorities to investigate thoroughly

NEW DELHI: The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association has strongly condemned the slanderous post by National Institute of Technology Srinagar (NIT Srinagar) on social media about the Holy Prophet Muhammad. In a statement, it said that the comments on social media have a potential to disrupt the ‘harmonious fabric of our diverse society’.

The students association called upon authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly and take appropriate action in accordance with the law.

The national convener of JKSA Nasir Khuehami said, 'While we condemn the offensive post, we urge everyone to maintain calm and refrain from engaging in any form of violence or retaliation. It is crucial that we address such incidents through dialogue and peaceful means.”

J-K DGP RR Swain said that J-K police holds respect for Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). “He made it clear that there is no place for those who disrespect each other's religion. Futhermore, he assured that, just like J-K Police registered the case immediately, it will bring this to its logical conclusion as well,” the association said.

Talking about the sensitivity of the issue, Khuehami emphasized the importance of leaders and authorities’ statements to guide the community towards peaceful resolutions. Further, he urged students and the citizens to heed the call for calm.

Similarly, the national general secretary of J-K association, Ummar Jamal, condemned the posts that demean religious figures. “We recognize the importance of freedom of speech but emphasize the need for responsible expression, particularly when it involves religious sentiments. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is the honor of Muslims, and Muslims hold him dearer than themselves. Whenever someone speaks slanderously about him, it causes Muslims more pain than corporal punishment does.” he said.
