NMC cancels MBBS, PG admissions in 3 medical colleges in Telangana: Reports

NEW DELHI: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has cancelled admissions in MBBS and PG courses in three medical colleges in Telangana, as per various media reports. 450 MBBS seats and 70 PG seats have been reportedly cancelled by the Commission in MNR medical college and hospital, Sangareddy; Mahavir Institute of Medical Sciences, Vikarabad; and TRR Institute of Medical Sciences, Patancheru due to “infrastructure deficiencies and shortage of faculty”.

The medical admissions through National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) UG counselling 2021 were done a month ago. Reports suggested that the NMC’s decision comes after it conducted an inspection in the month of March to assess mainly infrastructure, faculty strength, and patient inflow at the teaching hospitals. The Commission acted on the inspection results only after the MBBS, PG admissions were concluded, the reports said.

NMC reportedly issued the cancellation of medical admissions into the said colleges on May 19 leaving several students in a dilemma.

“We are going for an appeal against the NMC decision because otherwise the students will suffer,” an official in MNR College told the Deccan Chronicle. Students shall not suffer because admissions had been done as per the permission that was in existence on the day of admissions, he added.

Following NMC’s decision, medical students approached the state government which has reportedly formed a high-level committee of three members including Director Medical Education (DME), secretary of health department, and Kalolji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) vice-chancellor to look into the matter, the Times of India reported. The state health minister will talk to NMC regarding the solution for the 520 students now left without a seat, the report said.
