Indian Meteorological Department has forecasted heavy rainfall in most parts of Odisha till July 29 due to the well-marked low pressure over the Bay of Bengal
In view of the heavy rainfall warning prediction of IMD, the local administrations have directed that schools in Jagatsinghpur and Mayurbhanj districts will remain closed on Monday, July 27.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy rainfall in most parts of Odisha till July 29 due to the well-marked low pressure over the Bay of Bengal.
The Mayurbhanj district education officer said that all government, government-aided, and private schools (primary to higher secondary) in the district will remain closed on July 27 as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students.
However, all headmasters, headmistresses, principals, and teachers must report to their respective schools as usual to ensure that information about the closure is communicated to all students and their parents or guardians through available channels, including class WhatsApp groups, phone calls, SMS, and other means, so that no student reports to school, the statement added.
Furthermore, the Jagatsingpur district collector has also issued a similar order announcing closure of all schools, including Odisha Adarsha Vidyalayas and Kendriya Vidyalayas in the coastal district.

The IMD has issued a 'red alert' in several districts, including Sundargarh, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj districts. IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall and has issued an 'orange alert' for Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghapur, Cuttack, Jharsuguda, Baragarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Anugul, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Boudh, and Kandhamal.
