On day of ceiling collapse, JNU gets Rs 56.34 crore for hostel repair

JNU: A portion of the bathroom ceiling collapsed due to dampness and injured the student who is pursuing BA in German languages.
NEW DELHI: Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has received Rs 56.34 crores for hostel repairs and maintenance from the University Grants Commission and the ministry of education following the incident of a student getting injured due to the collapse of the roof of the Sabarmati hostel .
"JNU recieves a grant of 56.34 crores towards hostel repairs and maintenance. VC Prof. Santishree D. Pandit, in keeping with her mission of a student centric and friendly administration, thanks the UGC & MoE for the release of the grant," said a tweet from the official Twitter account of JNU.

As per reports, a university official , told that a portion of the bathroom ceiling collapsed due to dampness and injured the student who is pursuing BA in German languages. "The student sustained minor injuries and was taken to Safdarjung Hospital by the hostel warden. He is doing fine. He underwent an X-ray which shows everything is fine. The report of CT Scan is awaited," the official said. The official further said that the university and hostels have infrastructure issues, specifically those that are old and require repair.
