Shri Jagannath Medical College to start new session with 150 MBBS seats

NEW DELHI: The Shri Jagannath Medical College will start the academic session 2021-2022, with 150 seats for MBBS. The Medical Council of India approved 150 seats for MBBS admission in academic session 2021-22, the college shared on its official website.

According to the UNI report, seven professors, fifty-one assistant professors, eighty seven doctors, and hundred forty-five support staff besides a principal have been appointed by the state government to run the college. Medical College Principal Maya Padhi while speaking to UNI said, “Since construction and necessary work for the college has been completed, the state is awaiting clearance from the apex medical regulator to run the college.''

Orissa chief minister Naveen Patnaik had laid the foundation stone for the medical college and hospital on July 4, 2015. The campus of the medical colleges is expected to be completed within two years, and currently, the District Headquarter Hospital (DHH) has been transformed to function as extended hospital of the college. Till the campus is completed the practical session of the students will be conducted at DHH.

“20 acres of land for the purpose of constructing medical college and hospital was provided by Jagannath temple administration. Administrative and academic buildings along with staff quarters have been completed, however, the hospital work was delayed because of land. The district administration has provided 8 acres of land to the college for the construction of an in-campus hospital of the medical college. The construction work is expected to begin soon,” reported UNI.
