13,076 PM SHRI schools established in 3 years; highest in Uttar Pradesh: Education ministry

PM SHRI Schools Scheme: Out of the total number, 1,725 schools have been selected from Uttar Pradesh under the initiative.
According to the Ministry of Education, a total of 13,076 PM SHRI schools have been established in 33 states and union territories (UTs). Out of the total numbers, 1,725 PM SHRI schools have been selected from Uttar Pradesh, the highest across all states.
To improve the infrastructure of PM SHRI schools for primary and elementary education, schools have been saturated with components such as “bala feature” and “jaadui pitara”, support at pre-school education, child-friendly furniture, outdoor play materials, etc.
For secondary and senior secondary schools, furniture, fully equipped integrated science, physics, chemistry, biology labs, smart classrooms, computer lab/ ICT Lab, skill lab, playground with well-equipped sports facilities, etc, have been established.
Out of the total PM SHRI schools selected under the scheme, 9,373 schools are in rural areas, and 4,003 are in urban areas.
The centrally sponsored scheme was approved by the Cabinet on 7th September, 2022 and PM Shri schools have been selected from 33 states and UTs along with KVS, NVS, and NCERT, in a seven-phase selection process.

Furthermore, according to the education ministry, the PM SHRI scheme aims to develop schools as green schools by incorporating environment friendly aspects like energy efficiency using solar panels, LED lighting, nutrition gardens with natural farming, waste management, plastic-free, water conservation and awareness generation to incorporate an organic lifestyle.
