Rajasthan orders inspection of govt school buildings, closure of those found unsafe

JAIPUR: The Rajasthan government on Tuesday decided to conduct a fresh physical inspection of all government school buildings and ordered that any structure found unsafe should be closed immediately, officials said.

The decision was taken at a high-level review meeting chaired by Additional Chief Secretary (School Education) Rajesh Kumar Yadav at the state secretariat, amid growing concern over the safety of public infrastructure, especially educational institutions .

The officials said the exercise will go beyond previously identified dilapidated buildings and include all school structures currently in use. "Each building will undergo a detailed physical inspection to ensure compliance with all safety norms," Yadav said, stressing that no compromise with students' safety will be tolerated.

Govt allocates Rs 550 cr for school development project 2026

He directed that any building or classroom found unsafe "from any perspective" must be immediately closed, barricaded and reported with detailed status updates. The officer also reviewed the ongoing repair and construction works, instructing the officials to ensure their timely completion while maintaining quality standards.

He said adequate financial approvals have already been issued for these projects. Yadav said more than 2,000 school-related development and construction works have been completed across the state under the 2025-26 budget. For 2026-27, projects worth around Rs 550 crore have been planned.

The government also plans to mobilise additional resources through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, public contributions and other funding avenues to strengthen the basic infrastructure in government schools.

Senior officials, including State Project Director and Commissioner Rashmi Sharma and Director (Elementary Education) Sitaram Jat, attended the meeting.
