The UP govt has ordered the closure of all schools in Lucknow on September 12 amid heavy rainfall alert by the state Meteorological Department.
NEW DELHI: Schools in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, and several districts in Uttarakhand have been asked to remain closed amid heavy rainfall. The Uttar Pradesh government has ordered the closure of all schools in Lucknow on September 12 in view of an extended heavy rainfall forecast while schools in several Uttarakhand have been closed citing the alert by the state Meteorological Department.
The government has also cautioned the residents to stay indoors due to the risk of severe lightning and heavy rainfall. With heavy rain expected until September 12, the Meteorological Department issued a red alert in Lucknow.
"All government, non-government, and private schools up to class 12 of all boards in urban and rural areas of Lucknow will remain closed on Monday, September 12," reads the official notification from the administration.
This is due to the alert of heavy rainfall with lightning issued by the Indian Meteorological Department and the bad weather in the state for the last few hours.
There have been similar weather-related school closures in some of Uttarakhand's districts. The Champawat District Magistrate declared holiday for all schools from primary to class 12 till September 17.
The decision came considering the weather forecast, which predicted heavy rainfall, lightning, thunder, and prolonged intense rain. Following Champawat, Uddham Singh Nagar District Magistrate also announced the closure of schools for all classes.
These decisions were prompted by the India Meteorological Department's warnings of adverse weather conditions.
