All schools up to Class 12 are shut in Jharkhand's East Singhbhum after IMD predicted heavy rainfall. Online classes for students to avoid any disruption of studies.
All schools in Jharkhand's East Singhbhum up to Class 12 remain closed today due to heavy rains in the region, as predicted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The deputy commission Karn Satyarth instructed all government, private, and minority schools to remain closed, keeping in mind the safety of students.
The school authorities were asked to conduct online classes to avert any disruption of studies. The state’s day-to-day activities remain affected due to continuous downpour for the last two days.
The IMD issued a warning for Bokaro, East Singhbhum, Garhwa, Gumla, Khunti, Latehar, Lohardaga, Palamu, Ranchi, Saraikela, Simdega, and West Singhbhum districts. The weather office has issued a ‘yellow’ alert for heavy rainfall for Ranchi, Lohardaga, Ramgarh, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Jamtara, Hazaribag, Giridih, Koderma, and Deoghar.

Recently, a 15-year-old student had to swim across the Banai river to reach school after the only bridge connecting her village in Jharkhand’s Khunti collapsed. Khunti sub-divisional officer (SDO) Dipesh Kumari said construction of a diversion near the bridge has begun, however, the continuous rain is hindering the construction.
Many students' daily commutes have been affected, as now it takes 40 minutes via a 12 km detour, increasing their travel costs. Earlier, it used to take only five minutes to reach the school before the bridge collapsed. With Inputs from PTI
