Students' association protest against four-year UG programme at Delhi University

NEW DELHI: The All India Students' Association (AISA) called for a protest against the newly introduced Four Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) by University Grants Commission (UGC) in University of Delhi today.

All the protesting students gathered at the arts facility where a public meeting with former Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA), president, Nandita Narain was held. Several first year students from different students from different colleges also spoke at the public meeting.

The students raised concerns regarding the over the imposition of the Compulsory Hindi Test, the rampant fee hike, the utter dilution of syllabus under the FYUP and the chaotic time tables of colleges. Following the meeting, the students held a march in the Delhi University north campus.

The protest ended with s submission of a memorandum to the dean of Student Welfare. The memorandum included demands such as roll back of FYUP, fee hike must be stopped, scrap compulsory Hindi test, add English to AEC options and stop dilution of syllabus.

Students concluded the protest by declaring the movement against FYUP open. Narain spoke on the corporate based model of NEP 2020, saying, "We have never witnessed such destruction of this University before. There is complete mismanagement and chaos. The only clear thing is the motive- that is to limit education only for the most privileged sections."

UGC announced the new norms for Curriculum and credit framework for four-year undergraduate programmes (FYUP) on December 12, 2022. UGC chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar requested all higher educational institutions to implement the revised FYUP curriculum and credit framework.
