Students returned from Ukraine to get single chance to clear MBBS exam: Centre to SC

NEW DELHI: The Central government has recently informed the Supreme court that students who returned to India from Ukraine will be given a single opportunity to qualify the MBBS Final, Part 1 and Part 2 examinations (both theory and practical) without enrolling in any medical colleges.

ANI in its official handle tweeted: " Centre informs Supreme Court that students who returned to India from Ukraine will be offered a single chance to clear the MBBS Final, both Part I & Part II Examinations (both Theory and Practical) without enrolling in any existing medical colleges."

As per the Indian MBBS exam syllabus, the theory exam will be held. The practical exam will be conducted in the designated government colleges. Students who pass the MBBS exams must complete two years of internships, the first of which is free and the second of which is paid.

Earlier, the Centre government told the Supreme Court that it can not accommodate the medical students who have returned from Ukraine in Indian medical institutes as it would disrupt the entire medical education system in the country.

In its affidavit filed in the case, the Centre stated that students cannot be accommodated in medical colleges in India due to a lack of legal provisions and that no permission has been granted by the National Medical Commission (NMC) to transfer or accommodate any foreign medical students in any Indian medical institute.

According to reports, more than 70 Ukraine-returned Indian medical students have passed the NBE's Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) December 2022.
