Study Abroad: 56.2% students face disparities at foreign universities, finds Educate Online survey

NEW DELHI: A survey conducted by Educate Online, a startup specialising in distance education, has found that 56.52% Indian students face disparities when considering education at foreign universities.

The survey also found that 82.61% of respondents expressed concerns about adjusting to unfamiliar curricula in international universities. Educate Online said the findings indicate a growing demand for robust support systems, including academic counselling, to facilitate a smooth transition for students as they navigate diverse academic landscapes.

However, 73.91% respondents, who participated in the survey, expressed moderate confidence in adapting to new cultural environments, indicating their readiness for diverse experiences. “While encouraging, this should not overshadow the ongoing need for Indian educational institutions to provide cultural sensitivity training and peer support programmes, fostering a global perspective,” Educate Online said

The survey also found that language barriers and their impact on academic performance also play a significant role. A total of 39.13% respondents said that language barriers can pose challenges. The respondents added that they were working on improving their language skills. As many as 26.09% respondents said language proficiency is a critical issue while pursuing education abroad. “These findings point towards the need for holistic language support initiatives and enhanced language programs within the Indian education system to equip students with the linguistic skills required to thrive abroad,” Educate Online said.
