Amid severe heatwave conditions in Ghaziabad, the district administration on Thursday announced summer vacations for all schools across different boards from May 23, citing concerns over students’ health and safety. The decision was taken following directions from the district magistrate, who also urged residents to follow advisories issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to stay protected from extreme heat.
Ghaziabad schools closed amid heatwave
With the latest order, all schools affiliated with the Basic Education Council and other education boards, including private institutions, will remain closed for summer vacations from May 23. However, the administration clarified that CBSE board examinations scheduled during this period will continue as planned. Parents across Ghaziabad welcomed the administration’s decision, saying children were struggling to cope with the intense heat during school hours. Many said students were returning home exhausted despite carrying water bottles, caps, and towels to school every day.
In neighbouring Noida, although no official district-wide order has been issued so far, most schools have already announced summer vacations starting May 22. Earlier, on May 20, only government primary schools had been directed to close due to the heatwave. The IMD has predicted that heatwave conditions are likely to continue in several parts of western Uttar Pradesh over the next few days.
