NEW DELHI, JUNE 1:
Tamil Nadu government has introduced a Bill to fix the retirement age of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) Vice Chancellor to 70 after the row erupted over the incumbent VC holding the post even after completing 70 years.
Reportedly, Prof K. Ramasamy is continuing as the Vice-Chancellor of TNAU despite crossing the age of 70.
Earlier, P Venkatachalam a retired professor of the University has filed a writ petition in the High Court praying that Ramasamy should not be allowed to continue on the post after attaining 70 years of age.
The High Court in its interim order observed that there is no age limit prescribed under the State rules and in such an event, the age limit prescribed by the UGC is to be followed.
following these events, the State government has tabled a Bill in the Assembly to fix 70 as the retirement age for the VC by amending the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University Act, 1971.
