More than a week after the Tamil Nadu government announced the RTE admission schedule, the official website remains inaccessible, raising concerns that the process may be delayed further.
About 10 days after the Tamil Nadu government announced the schedule for admission under the Right to Education (RTE) Act for entry-level classes in unaided private schools, the official portal – rteadmission.tnschools.gov.in – remains inaccessible, showing “access denied” message.
On October 2, the Centre released the long-pending Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) funds , following which the state government announced the admission dates for 25% reservation for children from disadvantaged groups in unaided private non-minority schools.
TN RTE 2025 admission schedule
The official notification published early this month stated that the admission process for the academic year 2025-26 will be done on a priority-based for orphans, HIV-affected/infected children, transgender children, children of scavengers, and differently-abled children.
According to the schedule, the Tamil Nadu RTE admission notification was supposed to be uploaded on October 6, and the application were to be accepted from October 4. The final list of eligible students was scheduled to be announced on October 7, and a random selection process was slated for October 9 if applications exceeded the allotted 25% quota.
Tamil Nadu RTE portal not accessible
The official notification clearly states that the Tamil Nadu RTE admission 2025 will be conducted online. Additionally, a special 10-day online admission window has been scheduled to regularise eligible children already admitted under the RTE quota .
The dedicated Tamil Nadu RTE admission portal — rteadmission.tnschools.gov.in — had archived updates from previous years. Currently, the portal shows “access denied”. The lack of access to the official website may have affected the eligible candidates to access and avail the scheme.
Private schools oppose govt decision
It also directed schools not to collect any tuition fees from the eligible students, and any fees already collected must be refunded within 7 working days. However, several private schools opposed this decision, as per reports.
As of now, the RTE portal remains inaccessible, and the state government is yet to announce a revised schedule or clarification on whether the process has been delayed.
