Earlier on July 6, the UGC has issued examinations-related guidelines and academic calendar to the universities in view of the COVID-19 lockdown. The guidelines universities asked universities to hold the final year examination September end. It has also asked institutions to evaluate students of intermediate semesters based on internal assessment of the present and previous semester.
Fowllowing this some of the final year students filed a plea in the Supreme Court demanding scrapping of the final year examination due to increasing cases of COVID-19 in the country. The SC on August 28, ruled that students cannot be promoted or granted degrees without exams. In its verdict, the apex court upheld UGC's July 6 guidelines that made holding exams compulsory for final-year students for all universities.
