UGC Revised Academic Calendar: New session from November

NEW DELHI: The Ministry of education has accepted change in the academic calendar suggested for the upcoming two semesters delayed due to COVID-19 pandemic. As per the revised calendar, the admission process for the upcoming semester has to be completed by October-end and the new session begins in November

Union education minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ has tweeted that the new classes for the upcoming semester will commence from November 1.

Pokhriyal tweeted that the UGC has accepted the report of the committee and approved the UGC guidelines on academic calendar for the first year of undergraduate and postgraduate students of the Universities for the Session 2020-21.

Pokhriyal also informed that regarding financial hardship being faced by parents due to lockdown and related factors, full fee will be refunded on account of all cancellation of admissions/migration of students, up to 30.11.2020, for this very session as a special case.

The examination of the semester will be held in March, while the even semester would commence in April instead of July.

Earlier on July 6, the UGC has issued examinations-related guidelines and academic calendar to the universities in view of the COVID-19 lockdown. The guidelines universities asked universities to hold the final year examination September end. It has also asked institutions to evaluate students of intermediate semesters based on internal assessment of the present and previous semester.

Fowllowing this some of the final year students filed a plea in the Supreme Court demanding scrapping of the final year examination due to increasing cases of COVID-19 in the country. The SC on August 28, ruled that students cannot be promoted or granted degrees without exams. In its verdict, the apex court upheld UGC's July 6 guidelines that made holding exams compulsory for final-year students for all universities.
