UGC tells universities to update list of affiliated colleges regularly

NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission has directed the Vice Chancellors of central and state universities to update the list of colleges affiliated to them on their official websites.

The negligence of universities in updating the details of affiliated colleges on their official websites may have put the job opportunities of many candidates in jeopardy. Many stakeholders like employers, background verification companies have to get into correspondence with respective universities to verify certificates or colleges and ascertain the status of affiliation of concerned colleges. All this leads to unnecessary delay and inconvenience, said the letter sent on March 13.

Highlighting this issue, the UGC in a letter to various central and state universities has requested them to regularly update the list of affiliated colleges and institutes on their official websites to ease the process of verifying the “genuineness of affiliated colleges”. Also, the UGC has asked universities to ensure they also clearly name colleges that were affiliated to them before but are not any more. For such colleges, universities should mention the period for which these colleges were affiliated to them.

The UGC is responsible for determination, coordination and maintenance of standards of university education in India.
