UP government will award five scholarships annually for one-year master’s degrees in the UK from 2025-26 to 2027-28. The scheme will cover tuition, living allowance, exams, and airfare.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has approved the “Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee-Chevening Uttar Pradesh State Government Scholarship Scheme”. According to a report by Newsonair, the scholarship scheme will facilitate higher education opportunities in the United Kingdom for meritorious students from the state.
Announcing the decision, State Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay said the scheme will grant scholarships to five outstanding students annually, enabling them to pursue a one-year master’s degree at reputed UK universities. The scholarship package includes coverage for tuition fees, examination and research expenses, a monthly living allowance, and round-trip economy airfare.
The scholarship is a collaborative effort between the Uttar Pradesh government and the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), based on an agreement. The selection process will follow a transparent and merit-based system aligned with the terms of the agreement.
UP to fund Rs 23 lakh per student
The scheme will commence from the academic year 2025-26 and will continue for three years until 2027-28. Any extension beyond this period will be subject to re-approval by March 30, 2028. The state government will bear approximately 19,800 pounds (around Rs 23 lakh) per selected student, while the remaining scholarship amount, ranging between 38,048 and 42,076 pounds per student, will be provided by the FCDO.
“Any continuation beyond this period will require re-approval by March 30, 2028. Under the scheme, the state government will contribute approximately around 23 lakh rupees per student, while the remaining amount will be borne by UK’s FCDO,” the Newsonair report stated.
