Dehradun schools closed today due to heavy rain, IMD issues orange alert

Uttarakhand: All government and private schools in Dehradun will remain closed on July 9 due to heavy rain in the region.
In view of continuous rainfall, schools in Uttarakhand's Dehradun district will be closed today. The order, issued by district magistrate and the District Disaster Management Authority, is for all the government, government-aided and private schools, as well as Anganwadi centres. It comes after India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall.
PTI reports one-day holiday for all schools from Classes 1 to 12 and all Anganwadi centres as a precautionary measure. The order reads that the decision has been taken with an aim of preventing any untoward incidents in view of the IMD's orange alert for the district. Chief Education Officer and the District Programme Officer have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the order.

Uttarakhand is likely to receive more rain over the next few days. Heavy thunderstorms are expected on July 10, followed by light to moderate rain over the weekend. A flash flood warning has been issued for parts of the state. Students are advised to stay in touch with their schools, as the authorities may switch to online classes to ensure the safety of students and teachers.
Southern India has been witnessing heavy rainfall for over a week now, schools and colleges were closed and even exams at the Mumbai University were postponed due to rain. As of now, there is no update if Mumbai schools will remain closed today. Therefore, students are advised to contact their respective schools for the latest information.
