WBCAP 2025 first merit list out; over 3 lakh allotted UG seats; revised admission schedule announced

West Bengal Admission 2025: Classes for freshers will commence from August 29. Admission window for phase 1 WBCAP will remain open between August 22 to 25.
The Department of Higher Education, West Bengal has published the WBCAP first merit list 2025 for admission to undergraduate (UG) courses in 17 universities, 460 government and government-aided colleges. Candidates will be able to view and download their WBCAP merit list from the official website, wbcap.in.
A total of 3,09,667 valid applicants have been allotted 4,02,557 seats across 7,232 subjects in 460 colleges under 17 universities, West Bengal minister-in-charge, Department of Higher Education, Bratya Basu, said and added that the government was also concerned about the delay in the admission process caused by legal complications .
“Candidates are requested to attend either in person or through their authorised representatives at the Institute /College at the time of final admission, failing which their candidature is liable to be cancelled,” the official notification said.
Admission window for phase 1 WBCAP counselling will remain open between August 22 to 25. As per the revised schedule, the classes for freshers will commence from August 29.
UG admissions 2025 in the state will be conducted in two phases through the West Bengal Centralised Admission Portal (WBCAP).
The West Bengal admission portal for the year 2025-26 was launched by Bratya Basu, education minister on June 17. However, all admission and counselling process in West Bengal was stalled for months due to legal cases over OBC reservation, until Calcutta High Court recently directed the state government to publish a fresh merit list based on the old OBC quota policy.
After prolonged delay, the WBCAP merit list has been released on the dashboard of the candidate's login page.
WBCAP 2025: Revised schedule
Candidates seeking admission into UG programmes in West Bengal government, govt-aided, and other higher educational institutions (HEIs) are required to check the WBCAP revised schedule to complete the registration and admission process well ahead of deadline.
