NEW DELHI: World Students Day 2023 is celebrated every year on the birth anniversary of former president APJ Abdul Kalam. He was the 11th president of India.
Although the day is called ‘World Students Day’, it is not observed by other countries. The International Students Day is celebrated on November 17. On the other hand, the United Nations has declared October 15 as International Day of Rural Women.
On the occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to the scientist and former president and said: “Heartfelt tribute to former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, who was loved by the people for his humble behavior and exceptional scientific talent, on his birth anniversary. His incomparable contribution in nation building will always be remembered with reverence.”
Abdul Kalam during his tenure as President of India between 2002 and 2007 held frequent interactions with students.
He was called the "People's President" as the demands of the highest office did not dim his zeal to meet with common people, especially students, a habit he maintained after his tenure was over. He was born in Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu in 1931 and passed away in 2015.
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma posted Abdul Kalam’s quote and paid his tributed saying, “Dream is not the thing you see in sleep but is that thing that doesn't let you sleep" This poignant quote from Bharat's former President Shraddheya APJ Abdul Kalam is immortal and guides us in our dream to build a Sashakt Assam. On his jayanti today, remembering the people's President with veneration.”
