THE Young University Rankings: Two IITs in top 100; India second most represented

THE Young University Rankings 2021: IIT Ropar and IIT Indore are in top 100 but their ranks have slipped from last year’s.
NEW DELHI: Two Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have featured in the top 100 list of young universities in the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings 2021.
IIT Ropar stood 63rd and IIT Indore was ranked 76th in the list of the world’s best universities that are 50 years old or younger. However, the ranks of both institutes have slipped from 62 and 64 respectively.
The universities are judged on four parameters including, teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook.
Out of the 475 participating higher educational institutes, Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University, stood first this year, while Paris Sciences et Lettres, or PSL Research University, Paris stood second, up from third last year.
IITs, IISERs in top 200
With 34 universities participating in THE young university rankings 2021, India has become the second most represented country after the United Kingdom with 37 universities.
This year’s ranking also saw nine universities as first-time participants including Mahatma Gandhi University which was ranked 142nd. Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, or IIIT Delhi, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Bhopal, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Anantapur (JNTUA) and Jamia Hamdard University are some of the new entries in the THE rankings.
Among the top 200, participating institutes include IIT-Gandhinagar which stood at 155th rank, IISER Kolkata ranked 157th and IIT Hyderabad ranked 169.
