Youth will be torchbearers of self-reliant India: Dharmendra Pradhan at IIT Bhubaneswar

NEW DELHI: Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan today said that youth will be the torchbearers of a self-reliant India and that the National Education Policy 2020 will transform our higher education institutions to become world-class institutions. The minister said this during the IIT Bhubaneswar academic complex inauguration.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by IIT Bhubaneswar and Skill Development Institute (SDI) Bhubaneswar in the presence of the education minister. The agreement is for enhancing skill development activities for unemployed, under-employed and underprivileged youth with technical education.

“The collaboration between IIT and SDI will help to address the local issues and environment issues in a disaster-prone state like Odisha and thereby acting as a role model for the entire nation,” Pradhan said.
Addressing the students, the minister said to overhaul the education landscape of the country, the Government brought out the National Education Policy 2020 based on the foundation of affordability, accessibility, equity and quality.
He stressed that NEP will transform our higher educational institutions into world-class institutions.
The government has taken steps to provide opportunities for the younger generation and will do everything to assist the higher education institutions, he added.
He further said that the revolution 4.0 has created the need for innovation of new models of business and development for the world. The institute must create new business end economic models to prepare for the new revolution for solving the modern day problems.
He even encouraged the students of IIT-BBS to explore the rich culture, heritage, literature and flora and fauna of India in line with the spirit of nation first. He said, “They (youth) will be the torchbearers of a self-reliant India of the 21st- century.”
The education institution has indeed become the symbol of progress in India and success in higher education. IITs are constantly contributing towards the development of technologies at the global stage and that the institutions should implement the National Education Policy 2020 for holistic and multidisciplinary education to help the economically weaker sections of the society.

“With focus on world-class research and innovation, our IITs have indeed become the symbol of the progress of India and success in higher education. Our IITs are amongst the world’s top universities and are contributing to global technological needs,” Pradhan said.
