51% women will be employable in 2022 compared to 46% men: India Skills Report 2022

New Delhi: The ninth edition of the India Skills Report (ISR 2022) released by Wheebox has yet again shown a higher percentage of women being employable in India than men. The theme of the 2022 report is ‘Rebuilding and Reengineering the Future of Work’.

The report reveals the women employable pool constantly increasing over the time period of 2016 to 2022. The estimate was 39.95 percent and 41.25 percent in 2016 and 2021 respectively. According to the report, 51.44 per cent of women are highly employable in 2022. With 54.5% of female participation, most women were found to have contributed in the Internet Businesses sector.

According to the India Skills Report 2022, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Kerala have the highest pool of employable talent in the country. The study indicated that 46.2% of the Indian youth were considered highly employable resources. Software, pharma, internet business, and banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI) emerged as the highest pool of talent demand.

India Skills Report 2022 is based on the results of the Wheebox National Eligibility Test (WNET) undertaken by 3 lakh candidates all over India and a report from the India Hiring Intent Survey covering 150 corporates spanning over 15 industries and sectors.

BE, BTech, MBA graduates most employable talent in India

It revealed Pune as the city with the most highly employable resources as 78% candidates scored above 60%. Lucknow had the second best result. B.E, BTech and MBA graduates turned out to be the most employable talent in the country, followed by BA and BCom graduates.

Maharashtra, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu had the highest job demands and hence showed higher hiring activity. The report predicted a 20 percent rise in hiring of more fresh graduates by these sectors in 2022 than in 2021.

The report talks about the nature of employment in the future under the chapter ‘Decoding the Future of Work’. It quotes the report by Gartner, which says that 51% of knowledge workers are expected to be working remotely by the end of financial year 2021. It predicts that 32% of all workers employed across the globe will be working remotely.

“Companies in India had realized the full potential of remote work during the COVID-19 pandemic. Many business leaders are said to be keen on adopting a hybrid work model in the coming year,” read the report.

It suggested that major infrastructural changes and skilling measures have to be undertaken to bridge the skill gap in India for the year 2022.

The report gives key emphasis to new job opportunities that can be expected in the domain of data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, robotics and design thinking.

The India Skills Report is an annual report released in partnership with All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Association of Indian Universities (AIU), Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), Taggd, Sunstone Eduversity, and UNDP. It is a report on the talent demand and supply.
