NEW DELHI: Nearly 95 per cent of the students enrolled in distance learning courses of Delhi University have completed their registration for the annual examination, claims the university. The annual exams have been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
All academic activities in Delhi University are under suspension since March 13, including that of School of Open Learning (SOL). There are over 1.25 lakh students enrolled in various undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate programmes in SOL.
Lakhs of students
As per a statement released by SOL, more than 95 per cent students of SOL have already submitted their online examination forms on the SOL website in all five UG (semester and annual) examinations. SOL will not charge a late fee from students who have till May 4 to fill the examination forms.
However, some of the academics of the university have concerns about the manner in which Delhi University is planning to conduct examinations. Former Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) president, Aditya Narayan Mishra, said that every year around 1.25 lakh students take admission in distance learning courses, while a sizeable section also re-sits exams in one or more subjects, which takes the number of students appearing for an examination to close to two lakh. “Is the university going to ensure that no student is left out because of ongoing lockdown. It would be advisable to conduct the examination once the lockdown is lifted,” Mishra said.
The SOL has claimed that it has completed all the pre-examination activities related to the UG courses and is ready to comply with the directions of the examination branch of the university.
