AIIMS Bathinda inaugurates centre of excellence for medical professionals: Report

A centre of excellence (CoE) was inaugurated by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bathinda on November 25
NEW DELHI: With the intended objective to better skill development, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bathinda, inaugurated a Centre of Excellence (CoE) on November 25, 2021, the Hindustan Times reported.
The first batch at the AIIMS Bathinda centre of excellence will include 31 nurses and will be trained as respiratory therapists. The institute has been mandated to train 260 qualified nurses in respiratory therapy within a year. The expenses of candidates will be taken care of by the union government, HT quoted Rana Gurjeet Singh, Punjab technical education, employment generation and training minister.

This initiative which is the first of its kind is funded by the union ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship. The idea was conceptualised when the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic had hit the country. The Punjab government has collaborated with AIIMS regarding the skill upgrades of medical and paramedical professionals.
According to Kanwaljit Singh, head of the urology department, AIIMS, the skill upgrade will give a new dimension to the healthcare sector, the report added.
Nurses who have two years of experience and have relevant degrees or diplomas within the Punjab domicile are eligible for the current programme.
“The centre of excellence that started operating this month will improve career options for the medical professionals” MK Aravind, director of employment generation and training of Punjab was reported saying.
