Assam: SEBA slashes syllabus of Class 9, 10 by 40% for 2021-22 session

NEW DELHI: The Board of Secondary Education (SEBA) has decided to reduce the course curriculum of Class 9 and 10 for every subject by 40 percent in comparison to the academic year 2019, in view of the pandemic situation.

According to an official notification from SEBA, the educational institutions were closed in the state from the third week of April 2021 due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic. The government had asked the schools to provide online classes to the students during this time.

However, many students could not attend online classes due to network issues and various other reasons. As a result, there has been an academic loss and both students and teachers will find it difficult to complete the whole syllabus prescribed by SEBA for the 2021-22 session, the board said.

Therefore, the Assam board has taken this decision to help the students of Class 9 and 10 have convenience in their examinations.

The board added that the revised course curriculum will be provided in a PDF format to the Inspectors of schools and asked them to circulate it amongst heads of schools, teachers and students of Class 9 and 10 respectively. Moreover, the syllabus will also be available online on the official website of the board - sebaonline.org.

Furthermore, SEBA said that while the curriculum has been reduced for the purpose of examinations for the session 2021-22 only, teachers should aim to teach the whole syllabus to the students, so that they can have sufficient knowledge of their complete course content.

Recently, the West Bengal Board also reduced the syllabus for Class 10 by 30-35% for seven subjects in view of COVID-19 pandemic.

Earlier in July, the Haryana government also took the decision to slash the syllabus for Classes 10 and 12 by 30% as no physical classes were conducted during the pandemic situation and the education of students suffered.
