West Bengal HS Exam 2026: WBCHSE confirms 3 out-of-syllabus maths questions; full marks to be awarded

The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) has confirmed that three questions in the Mathematics paper of the West Bengal HS Examination 2026 were out of syllabus. The council has also announced that full marks will be awarded to the students who have attempted those questions.

According to the official statement, question numbers - 2B, 11B and 11C, carrying two, four and four marks respectively, totalling 10 marks in the Mathematics paper of semester 4 of the WBCHSE HS Exam 2026, were out of syllabus.

“The Council has consulted the respective subject experts regarding the matter and hereby confirms its authenticity. Accordingly, it has been concluded that the examinees who will attempt those question(s), will be awarded full marks for the same,” the West Bengal council said.

The WBCHSE began its Higher Secondary (HS) Class 12 semester examination 2026 from February 12 and will continue up to February 27.

Over 7 lakh students appeared in the offline format school exams, held around 2,100 centres across the state, the WB board said. The WBCHSE HS semester exam 2026 are being conducted in a single shift from 10 am to 1:15 pm.

The WBCHSE Higher Secondary course is divided into four semesters. Class 12 covers semester 3 and 4. Each semester will carry 40 marks and most subjects have a total of 100 marks, including theory and practical or project.

The WB Class 12 board exam 2026 question paper will have 30% multiple choice questions (MCQs) and the rest are short answer and long or descriptive questions.

As per the passing criteria, students will have to acquire at least 30% marks in each subject to be declared qualified.
