Vatsal Dedhia, a CAT topper who scored 99.92 percentile, said that he started preparing for the CAT exam in July. Since he came from an engineering background, it helped him in the preparation because he was good at quants. He started his preparation by learning about the CAT exam pattern and syllabus. As soon as he finished the syllabus, he started taking CAT mock tests. Although he did not join any coaching institute, he bought study materials and took a series of mock test series from reputed institutes for training purposes.
Another CAT topper, Shivam Kumar, who scored 99.95, said that he was strong in the QA section, therefore, he did not devote much time to this section. However, I tried a lot of mock tests for this section. For the DILR section, he started his preparation on “How to Prepare for Data Interpretation for CAT” by Arun Sharma. He solved 60% of the book. VARC was the weakest section, so he took coaching classes for this particular section. He focused mainly on solving mock tests for all three sections for six months.
