CBSE issues guidelines to update school names under PM SHRI scheme on SARAS portal

Schools will have to upload the approval letter issued by the education ministry, to prefix their names with "PM SHRI."

NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a circular to all controlling heads of government and government-aided schools to update the names of schools under the PM School for Rising India (PM SHRI) scheme. As per the official circular, the board has invited schools to apply online to add the "PM SHRI" prefix to their names.

The CBSE informed through the circular that it has received requests from schools selected under the scheme for the updating of their names. As per the circular, all eligible schools can submit their applications under the 'Change in Name of School' category, through the School Administration and Regulatory Authority System (SARAS) official website, saras.cbse.gov.in/SARAS.

SARAS portal closed

The board further informed that the SARAS portal for the 2025-26 session is currently closed and schools will be able to submit their applications once the link reopens next year. During the application process, schools will have to upload the approval letter issued by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, to prefix their names with "PM SHRI."

“For getting the name of the school prefixed with "PM SHRI" to its existing school name; all concerned Schools shall have to mandatorily apply for the same through online mode and upload the approval letter issued by Ministry of Education, Govt. of India to the School in this regard,” the official circular read.

PM SHRI Scheme: Model schools initiative

PM SHRI scheme is an initiative launched by the Indian government to enhance the quality of education in schools. The scheme focuses on upgrading select government and government-aided schools to provide holistic and inclusive education, ensuring that students receive quality learning experiences. Around 14,597 schools have been selected under the PM SHRI scheme to be upgraded as model schools. The Union Cabinet has approved a budget of Rs 27,360 crore for the enhancement of PM SHRI schools.
