Central Universities to work on filling up 6,000 vacant posts by October: Dharmendra Pradhan

NEW DELHI: Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan held a meeting with the vice-chancellors of 45 central universities today through virtual mode to discuss various issues like implementation of National Education Policy 2020, ABC, multiple entry-exit, etc.

Addressing the vice-chancellors, Pradhan said that the vice-chancellors body is the chief body to give new direction to higher education in India. The universities are the base of creativity, innovation, and opportunities, he said.

“The New Education Policy 2020 will play a crucial role in placing India at the top of the emerging new world order,” Pradhan said. He stressed on making India a superpower with the help of NEP 2020.

Pradhan said that the universities are the custodians of India’s destiny and they should fulfill their responsibilities outlined in the NEP 2020 such as implementation of the policy, research, deeper understanding of the issues, multi-disciplinary approach, regular updation of the courses etc.

The BJP-led Union education minister informed that there are 5 crore students studying in the higher education institutions of India. He expressed his excitement to work with the vice-chancellors and happiness to learn that central universities are undertaking best practices to fill-up vacancies, online learning, and implementation of NEP 2020.

Our universities are key catalysts for promoting socio-economic development and for realising aspirations and national goals, they should popularise and promote learning in Indian languages and cultural heritage of India, the minister of education said.

He encouraged central universities to work on mission-mode to fill-up the 6,000 vacant posts by October, 2021 and urged them to create a framework for alumni endowment.

Further, Pradhan asked the vice-chancellors to encourage sports, make students job creators by promoting innovation and research in campuses.

In the end, Dharmendra Pradhan urged that as thought leaders, central universities should assume pioneering roles in initiating frameworks for implementation of Academic Bank of Credit (ABC), multiple entry and exit system, and several other aspects of the NEP 2020 from this academic year itself.
