CJP Protest: Delhi Police detains opposition leaders; supporters call off ‘peaceful dharna’, move to CP

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has called off the 'peaceful dharna' after Delhi Police released all detainees. As per reports, police had also detained opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav, outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence. Water cannon trucks and tear gas jeeps have been deployed again at the Jantar Mantar site. Media reports reveal that CJP protestors have moved towards Connaught Place.

The development comes after CJP planned to hold a ‘peaceful protest’ outside Delhi Police headquarters over the detention of over 100 CJP protestors during the ‘Sansad Chalo’ march.

Several families had alleged that they had not been able to contact their children since yesterday’s Parliament march . Families of the students said they had been unable to reach them for hours and did not know whether any charges had been filed, as concerns mounted over the whereabouts of those detained.

According to CJP spokesperson Sauvav Das’s latest post on X, their lawyers have confirmed that all detainees have been released and therefore, the peaceful protest has been called off.

CJP: Families unable to contact children

A resident of Tilak Nagar, Kartikyen, said that his 20-year-old brother Harshit, who had appeared for the NEET 2026 twice this year, was picked up during the protest and was believed to be at a police station in northwest Delhi.

"We last spoke to him around 1:30 pm on Monday and had not been able to contact him since," Kartikyen said.

In another case, the family of a 26-year-old Amit Upadhyay, who is a law graduate from Delhi University and is currently pursuing LLM, said he had also been detained and was being held at another police station in northwest Delhi.

Family said they were trying to meet him but had not been informed when he would be released or whether any charges had been invoked.

Delhi Police file FIRs

Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke apologised to supporters who were injured during the Parliament march. He also appealed to them to contact and speak to him personally.

However, Delhi Police has filed five FIRs in connection with the violence that occurred during the CJP protest march .

As per Delhi Police records , more than 118 police personnel, including several senior officers, were injured and around 70 protesters were detained after a protest by the CJP.

The CJP has continued its month-long protest against irregularities in NEET exam and other competitive examinations. CJP is demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan , reforms in the National Testing Agency (NTA), greater transparency in entrance examinations, and justice for students affected by alleged exam irregularities.
