CLAT 2022: Important preparation tips to score well in English comprehension
Around 20% of the CLAT 2022 test paper will have questions from the English language and comprehension, making it one of the scoring sections in the examination.

NEW DELHI : The CLAT 2022 exam is just around the corner as the Consortium of NLUs will conduct the entrance exam on June 19 (2:00 - 4:00 pm). The total number of questions asked in this CLAT exam is 150 MCQs, out of which, around 28 - 32 questions will be asked from the CLAT English and comprehension section, making it one of the most important sections in the test.

The English section tests the candidate's reading and language skills. There will be around 6 to 7 comprehension passages, each of which will be followed by a series of multiple choice type questions. These questions will test the candidate’s understanding of the content, its central theme, meanings of words used in the passage and others.

As per the CLAT exam pattern and syllabus the grammar section has questions on sentence correction, sentence rearrangement, filling the blanks with appropriate words, etc.

Syllabus for CLAT 2022 English language
In the English section of CLAT 2022 candidates will be given passages of 450 words each. The content of the passages can be derived from fiction or non-fiction reading of intermediate level, news and journalistic sources. Students should be able to read abd comprehend the passage in about 5-7 minutes.
Each passage will be followed by a series of questions that will require candidates to demonstrate their comprehension and language skills, including their abilities to:

Read and comprehend the main point discussed in the passage, as well as any arguments and viewpoints discussed or set out in the passage;

Draw inferences and conclusions based on the passage;

Summarise the passage;

Compare and contrast the different arguments or viewpoints set out in the passage; and

Understand the meaning of various words and phrases used in the passage.

Tips and Tricks to Prepare for English for CLAT

Identify your strengths and weaknesses in the English section. These will help in identifying the topics where you are facing problems.

Make a habit of reading newspapers. This exercise will help you to improve your reading speed, vocabulary and grammar.

Books such as Word Power Made Easy by Norman Lewis and High School English Grammar and Composition are highly recommended for candidates who want to improve their comprehension and grammar skills.

Also, make it a habit to write down anything important you come across, whether it's unfamiliar words or important grammar rules.

Lastly, practice sample papers for Engligh comprehension, this will help you get a good command over this section.
