NEW DELHI: State governments including Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry reopened colleges on September 1 with COVID-19 guidelines in place. Jammu and Kashmir, Assam and Odisha also recently decided to resume offline classes as active COVID-19 cases have started to decline.
Recently, Delhi University vice-chancellor said that they have noted NDMA guidelines and will take a decision to reopen colleges in a phased-manner soon. According to a report from The Hindu , DU has decided to resume physical classes from the next week starting with the third-year students.
JNU and JMI are still considering the decision to reopen their campuses for conducting physical classes. While students are demanding reopening of IITs and other technical institutions, IIT Guwahati director said that institute will reopen soon for all students.
The Assam government earlier had declared that colleges will reopen on September 1. But the government postponed that decision and announced that the colleges will reopen on September 6 for postgraduate, graduate students who have received at least one COVID-19 dose. The state's Disaster Management Authority issued COVID-19 guidelines for resuming colleges in the state and said it can reopen classes from September 6.
As states resume offline classes the admission process in various universities and colleges have also started. The Delhi University UG and PG registrations 2021 were closed on August 31. Over 4 lakh students registered for UG courses and nearly 1.7 lakhs registered for PG courses at DU.

The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Andhra Pradesh also decided to resume offline classes for MTech students maintaining all COVID-19 protocols for the academic year 2021-23.
States like Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh are yet to make a decision on reopening schools and colleges.
Schools and colleges in Delhi have already reopened on September 1 but Delhi University (DU) still remains closed. Vice Chancellor, PC Joshi, DU said that a high level meeting was convened to make a decision on reopening colleges, and colleges might resume offline classes in a phased manner.
