NEW DELHI: Vice-President (VP) Jagdeep Dhankhar today stressed upon the need for holistic healthcare by developing a system which prevents people from reaching the hospital. He called for converging various forms of medicinal therapies, including allopathy and India’s age-old medicinal therapy systems.
The VP was speaking on the centenary celebrations of the Andhra Medical College in Visakhapatnam today. Dhankhar described the formation of the ministry of ayush in 2014 as a milestone moment for our country as we rediscovered our traditional wealth.
Dhankhar called the centenary celebrations of the Andhra Medical College as a ‘pleasant coincidence’ that these celebrations were taking place in ‘Amrit kaal’, in which “phenomenal growth of Bharat has been recognised and acknowledged globally”.
Rs 50 crore donation
He also commended the alumni of the Andhra Medical College for endowment worth Rs 50 Crores towards the centenary academic block building of the college. The VP urged the college administration to create a structured mechanism that will enable alumni to actively participate as partners in the nation's progress.
He described the medical profession as a pious profession and a service to humanity. The VP said, “Doctors inspire a lot of belief in the people.” However, the Vice-President expressed his disapproval of some establishments that have grown into a mode of commercialisation. "We need to have a culture of high ethical standards, we need to generate an ecosystem, a self-regulating system," he added.
