COVID-19 Lockdown: JMI to conduct online placement drive

NEW DELHI: Amidst the lockdown, Jamia Millia Islamia University is gearing up to organise placement and internship drives in online mode.
The University Placement Cell, or UPC, has developed a dedicated web portal for the online placement drive. An automation platform for training and placement process has also been adopted for the purpose.
Several big companies such as Amazon, Byjus, NIIT Ltd., Samsung Display, Dark Phoenix Studios (MO ON TV), E-vision TechnoServe, Havells, Peacock Solar are expected to participate in the online placement drive.
A statement released by the university said: “During the lockdown, the biggest challenge is to provide job placements and internships to students. The UPC is coordinating with many companies for this purpose.”
Due to the lockdown enforced to curb the spread of coronavirus, educational institutions were closed down in March. Workplaces across the country have also transitioned to work from home model.
The logistics of the placement drive have been coordinated through video meetings with Teacher Placement Coordinators and Student Placement Committees of various departments.

The placement committee at JMI has already organised its first phase of placement before the lockdown was enforced.
As many as 52 companies extended 257 job offers to students of various postgraduate, undergraduate and diploma courses. Big recruiters included Samsung, SIEMENS, Mahindra Comviva, Vedanta Ltd, NIIT, L&T Ltd, American Express, WIPRO Technologies, IBM and L&T Construction.
A student of Bachelor of Technology in computer engineering bagged the highest annual salary package of Rs 41 lakh offered by Microsoft India. The highest-paid internship of Rs 80,000 per month was offered to a student of B.Tech electronics.
The university has been conducting regular online classes since the start of lockdown. To enable around 800 teachers, the university has organised four online faculty development programs.
