Coronavirus: Final-year trainee DNB doctors can stay until the fresh batch of trainees join.
NEW DELHI: The National Board of Examination (NBE) has issued a notice asking postgraduate medical students of DNB (Broad Speciality), DrNB (Super Speciality), and Fellowship in National Board (FNB) to continue with their internships until fresh batches of trainees join.
The medical examination board has advised these trainees to continue with their services in their respective hospitals in view of the extraordinary situation due to the surge in COVID-19 cases.
The 2018-19 batches of DNB, DrNB and FNB trainees will continue working at the NBE accredited hospitals, over and above their mandatory three months extension. Admission to DNB programmes -- not the internship -- is via the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for postgraduate courses in medicine or NEET PG. This year’s exam, or NEET PG 2021 , has been postponed due to the second wave of the COVID-19 outbreak.
As per the notice: “It is clarified that all final-year trainees of aforementioned batches shall continue to discharge the duties in this time of national exigency as may be prescribed by their hospitals till fresh batches of trainees for 2021 admission session have joined at respective hospitals or counselling for NEET-PG 2021/DNB-PDCET 2021, NEET-SS and FET 2021 is concluded, whichever is earlier.”
The NBE has also instructed its accredited hospitals to pay the stipend to the trainees as per the stipend guidelines of NBE.
