NEW DELHI: The National Institute of Open Schooling or NIOS has said it will schedule its exams in coordination with the Central Board of Secondary Education, CBSE.
All annual exams conducted by national boards and entrance exams have been either postponed or rescheduled following the COVID-19 lockdown across the country from March 25.
NIOS chairman CB Sharma told the Times of India that new dates would be decided once the CBSE releases its schedule. “We will decide on new dates to conduct annual exams once CBSE releases its new schedule,” he said.
However, the CBSE may be able to decide its schedule only after evaluating the availability of exam centres. “This will be done [rescheduling of exams] once the Board checks the availability of schools to use them as exam centres,” he added.
However, Sharma said he was apprehensive about the availability of schools as they may call- off or shorten their summer vacation to make up for the learning loss due to the lockdown.
In the wake of coronavirus spread, the government asked exam conducting authorities to reschedule the timetable and announce new dates after the lockdown period gets over on April 14.
